In approximately November 2000 and May 2002, Ingersoll-Rand Italiana S.p.S.was awarded four contracts with the Iraqi government for the sale of air compressors under the United Nations Oil-for-Food Program. These contracts were secured through the payment of kickbacks in the amount of approximately 513,861 euros to Iraqi government officials. Ingersoll-Rand Italiana also paid eight Iraqi officials $20,282 for travel, entertainment and 'pocket money'. The payments were made through an agent of Ingersoll-Rand Italiana based in Jordan.
